CREATIVE CASTAWAY SESSIONS

Inspired by Robert Owen's favourite story 'Robinson Crusoe' by Daniel Defoe, we have assembled an incredible range of creative sessions for Lanark's children to enjoy. In the drama sessions children are engaged in creating their own castaway story where they have to work out how they have landed on a desert island and think about what they will do to survive.

In the music and percussion session they focus on communicating with sound and rhythm. Perhaps their new techniques will send a message to the outside world that they are stranded and want to return.

Meanwhile in the nature craft session the children make a 'diarama' - a 3D scene of how they imagine life on their island.

Finally, the children and adults come together for a final session outdoors in the woods, where the children explore tree climbing, mud kitchens, den building and cooking round the fire just like a real castaway experience.

These workshops take place in two settings. Nurseries enjoy visits from the specialists to work with those starting school in August. There are also two rounds of after-school sessions for primaries 1, 2 and 3.
